Creating a luxury eco retreat on a secluded island might sound like a dream — but for the team at Eco Structures Australia, it’s a challenge we’re well prepared to meet. Our modular, off-grid building systems were recently put to the test in one of our most ambitious international projects to date: Luxumas, an exclusive, family-owned retreat located in the pristine Exumas region of the Bahamas.
We supplied and delivered a full range of prefabricated eco structures — including luxury tents, gazebos, staff accommodation, a restaurant, and storage units — all shipped via barge to a completely remote island. Beyond supply and logistics, we also provided on-the-ground installation support, sending one of our trained construction managers to work with and upskill the local team. This project is a clear demonstration of how our expertise and systems can deliver high-end, sustainable experiences — even in the most logistically demanding environments.
With more than 25 years’ experience in remote construction and eco tourism, we’re proud to have contributed to a project that balances luxury with sustainability, supporting both the environment and the local community.

Secluded, Sustainable, and Exclusive
Luxumas is more than just a holiday destination — it’s a private sanctuary designed for travellers who value privacy, comfort, and a connection to nature. Situated on a remote island in the Exumas chain of the Bahamas, this retreat offers guests the rare chance to disconnect from the outside world and immerse themselves in untouched natural beauty.
What sets Luxumas apart is its commitment to sustainability. The island is completely off-grid, operating independently of traditional infrastructure. Every aspect of the retreat has been carefully designed to reduce environmental impact, while still delivering a premium experience.
A Premium Eco Experience
Despite its secluded location, Luxumas delivers all the luxury and service of a high-end resort. From beautifully appointed eco tents to a fully equipped restaurant and staff accommodation, the retreat caters to groups ranging from small families to larger private bookings. Guests can choose from three package tiers, including the option to charter a private catamaran for the ultimate oceanfront experience.
Each stay offers a seamless blend of indoor comfort and outdoor living — with panoramic views, natural materials, and thoughtful design at every turn.
Eco Structures’ Role in the Project
Full-Scope Support from Start to Finish
Our team was engaged to deliver a complete structural solution for the retreat — supplying all accommodation and facility buildings in modular, prefabricated form. Drawing on years of experience with remote projects, we worked closely with the client to understand site conditions, environmental needs, and guest expectations.
From early-stage planning to final handover, we managed product design, customisation, shipping logistics, and installation support.
Training and Community Engagement
In addition to supplying the structures, we sent one of our experienced construction managers to the Bahamas for several weeks to lead the installation. As part of this process, we trained local workers — many of whom had little to no prior construction experience — equipping them with the skills to assemble and maintain our systems.
This hands-on approach not only ensured a successful build but also supported the local community with new skills and employment opportunities.
Barge Delivery and Remote Logistics
Accessing a remote island with no road network or port facilities requires careful coordination. All our prefabricated components were packed and transported via barge, arriving in timed shipments to suit the build schedule and site limitations.
Our lightweight, modular systems are ideally suited to remote settings — easy to transport, quick to assemble, and designed for resilience in coastal climates.
Structures Supplied by Eco Structures
Eco Tents and Guest Accommodation
We supplied multiple eco tents across the site to cater to different guest needs:
- 3m Eco Tent Op 1 – Compact and versatile, perfect for private retreats or standalone amenities
- 6.3m Eco Tent Op 53 & 54 – Larger tents designed for luxury stays, offering spacious interiors and premium finishes
These tents are built to withstand harsh coastal conditions while providing excellent airflow, insulation, and comfort.
Shared and Operational Facilities
In addition to guest accommodation, we delivered a full suite of supporting structures, including:
- 4.2m Gazebo – Used as a communal lounge and relaxation area
- Pop Up Tent – A flexible space for events or additional guest accommodation
- Lux Café – A custom-designed café/restaurant structure offering indoor and outdoor dining options
- Storage Facilities – Operational units for managing supplies and equipment
- Staff Accommodation – Comfortable living quarters for on-site staff, designed for privacy and function
Each unit was prefabricated, shipped flat-packed, and assembled on-site, saving time and reducing waste.
Designed for the Environment
Sustainable Materials and Construction
Every structure supplied for the Luxumas project was designed with sustainability in mind. Prefabrication allowed us to manufacture all components in a controlled environment, ensuring precision and reducing material waste. By the time the structures arrived on site, everything was ready for fast, low-impact assembly — with minimal need for heavy machinery or large teams.
Our building systems use sustainably sourced materials and are engineered for long life in demanding environments. This means fewer repairs, less ongoing maintenance, and a smaller environmental footprint over time. It’s a smarter way to build — especially when working in remote and delicate ecosystems like those in the Bahamas.
Off-Grid Systems and Climate Resilience
Luxumas was built to operate completely off-grid. Our modular designs support the integration of solar power, rainwater collection, and efficient waste management systems, ensuring self-sufficiency without compromising guest comfort.
All structures are engineered to perform in hot, humid, and storm-prone conditions. Features like elevated bases, reinforced frames, natural ventilation, and weatherproof materials make them ideal for coastal climates. This gives operators peace of mind and ensures a safe, comfortable stay for guests, regardless of weather.
The Guest Experience at Luxumas

Luxumas offers three distinct packages, each tailored to suit different group sizes and preferences:
- Essential Package: From $4,850 per day, for up to 10 guests (6 adults, 4 teens)

- Villa + Catamaran Package: Ranging from $34,500 to $44,500 per week, including luxury accommodation and a private sailing catamaran for up to 22 guests
Each package offers full access to the island’s amenities and is designed to deliver a unique and unforgettable experience.
Comfort Meets Conscious Design
While the location and setting offer natural beauty in abundance, it’s the attention to detail in every structure that sets Luxumas apart. Inside each eco tent, guests enjoy premium furnishings, custom finishes, and clever use of space — all designed to reflect the surrounding environment without disturbing it.
Whether relaxing in the shade of a gazebo, dining at the Lux Café, or returning to a peaceful private tent at the end of the day, every part of the guest journey is shaped by comfort, calm, and care for the planet.
