Our Story
Based in Fremantle, Western Australia, Eco Structures Australia designs, manufactures and supplies cost-effective, environmentally sustainable glamping accommodation.

Based in Fremantle, Western Australia, Eco Structures Australia designs, manufactures and supplies cost-effective, environmentally sustainable glamping accommodation, strategically designed to help resort owners and operators capitalise profitably on the rapidly growing demand for unique, experiential eco travel concepts. Led by our flagship Eco Tents glamping product, our ability to understand the demands of modern accommodation needs has seen us become an international leader, from Australia to the USA, Asia, Europe and beyond.
In 2000, Cyclone Rosita tore through Broome, Western Australia, wiping out the world-famous Eco Beach Resort – but not the steely resolve of its owner, Karl Plunkett. Amidst the rubble and ruins, Karl conceived a vision to redesign and rebuild a completely new resort concept fusing glamorous eco design with extreme weather structural integrity.
In 2009, Eco Beach Resort was reborn as a thriving tourism ‘village’ of lightweight, demountable structures, ranging from tents, to modules and gazebos. It was a grand accomplishment – but it was just the beginning.
Fuelled by his burning desire to innovate and revolutionise, Karl launched Eco Structures Australia to change the way travellers interact with the people and places. Based in Perth, Western Australian, this team of passionate progressives would soon become a leading worldwide manufacturer of luxury glamping tents and eco cabins.
With the trend of glamping, staycations, ecotourism and wellness tourism growing rapidly, Eco Structures Australia is leading the way by helping resort owners and operators capitalise on the modern traveller’s demand for luxurious, one of a kind experiences.

Owner and Director
Karl Plunkett goes by many titles. A Developer, who established successful building company, Australian Eco Constructions Pty Ltd, in 1996. An Owner, specifically of Ramada Eco Beach in Broome where he first commenced working on the prototype eco tents, eco modules and gazebos that have now become Eco Structures Australia’s core products. But above all, he is a Discoverer.
When others ask, “Are we there yet?”, Karl asks “Where to next?”. With a motto of building for the future, Karl draws on more than 25 years of building and construction experience matched with a proven ability to complete projects on time and within budget to understand the unique challenges of tourism developers looking for cost-effective solutions based on environmentally sustainable principles.
For Karl, designing eco tents is about seeing the world through the eyes of his clients in order to expose travellers to new experiences, teach life lessons, switch off, disconnect, and reconnect with nature. It’s all about reciprocal trust – by making people available, standing by his product and doing the right thing first time, Karl creates platforms to create powerful experiences that burn into traveller memories.

Tom Butterfield
Sales and Business Development Manager
Tom embarked on his managerial adventure with Eco Structures Australia in 2012 at a time when the glamping trend was growing rapidly around the world. Driving product and concept, Tom has since completed over 60 projects across Australia, as well as over 25 international locations such as the US Virgin Islands, Saudi Arabia and China, along with several A Class World Reserves.
Tom’s success is largely thanks to a passion for chasing new frontiers. He believes our fast paced lifestyles leave us longing for the nostalgia and authenticity of camping – yet we can no longer do without modern comfort, convenience and luxury. For Tom, every day at Eco Structures is the chance to go beyond tent supply by acting as the conduit to unique wilderness experiences, working with clients with a like-minded entrepreneurial spirit to deliver high-end getaway concepts with ‘wow factor’ that achieve environmental harmony.
With innovation in his nature, Tom has a unique knack for drilling into the ‘soul purpose’ of the tourism concept in order to quickly and profitably design unique accommodation concepts with low capital costs that feed the modern traveller’s yearning for authentic experiences.

Philosophy
When predicting future travel needs, it’s not what you know that matters – it’s the quality of the questions you ask. These questions lead to a deeper understanding of changing trends and market sentiment, allowing us to constantly evolve our products to reach the ever-increasing heights of traveller expectation.
ECO TOURISM CHANGES LIVES
It is a tool to expose people to new experiences that teach life lessons, gently reminding us to reflect on what’s important and persuading us to switch off, disconnect, and reconnect with our surrounds.
CUSTOMERS COME FIRST
We don’t just say we care - we live it too by making our team available to hear you challenges, standing by our products and replacing anything that isn’t working as it should.
IN DOING THE RIGHT THING
We know that when we go out of our way to do right by our clients, our clients stick by us. We call it the circle of loyalty, where everyone benefits long-term by repaying the trust.
IN THE POWER OF EXPERIENCES
Powerful experiences burn into the mind, making your travel concept impossible to forget. We are privileged to help build a platform for you to create those memories.
